SO BE IT, SO IT IS.
Just as its name suggests, “Spiritual Bypassing” is when we use our spirituality as a means of avoiding necessary discomfort.
Psychological pain, emotional trauma, and existential stress are all natural elements of the human experience. Still, they are inherently difficult and unpleasant, which is why we sometimes deflect them by hiding behind our spiritual identities.
A common example of modern Spiritual Bypassing is the philosophy of “Good vibes only.” This phrase, as well-intentioned as it may be, is a lie.
“Good vibes only” is equally unhealthy and unrealistic as “Bad vibes only.” Duality is the law of our Universe and the fabric of our spirit; there are no “bad vibes” without the good, just as there are no “good vibes” without the bad.
The key to coping with the Universe’s energetic complexity is reshaping our perspective to one where the “bad vibes” are viewed and treated as opportunities to grow…
Which would suggest they’re not really “bad” at all.
This is the counterproductive nature of all Spiritual Bypassing — we dismiss unpleasant realities as either not real or unimportant, for the sake of maintaining comfort in the present moment…
Which only delays our acceptance of these realities, while ensuring that once we are forced to accept them, they will be even more unpleasant and intimidating than they already were.
Spiritual Bypassing is a round-trip ticket to and from the comfort zone, as it sacrifices long-term growth for short-term relief.
When we use spirituality to evade truth, we delay the crucial process of acceptance and healing — we set ourselves in this repetitive cycle of avoidance while discrediting sacred truths and practices for our self-serving interests.
