SO BE IT, SO IT IS.
The creative process requires, above all other things, energy — if we want to materialize our visions, we must be well-sustained in terms of our physical, mental, and spiritual health.
There remain many misconceptions regarding the meaning and methods of self-care, as it is often conflated with self-indulgence and used to justify habits that are unhealthy and detrimental to the creative process.
The fundamental truth separating self-care from self-indulgence is that:
As divine students of the Universe, we know there is far more to life than pleasure. While we should always afford ourselves time to enjoy the simple delights that relax and amuse us, they must be enjoyed in mindful moderation.
For example…
Enjoying a drink at the end of a long day is a form of self-care. Drinking so much that you have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning, and making that a regular habit throughout your week, would be self-indulgence.
If we indulge ourselves in these simple delights too often and/or too deeply, they can consume us to the point of dependency, obsession, or addiction — we become spiritual slaves to our senses and are unable to create (let alone function) without these sources of temporary pleasure.
Self-indulgence may feel good in the moment, but when habitualized, robs us of precious opportunities to manifest alongside the Universe and discover who we truly are. Not only is it different from self-care, it is oftentimes the complete opposite…
There are no fleeting pleasures, no temporary comforts, that are worth severing your connection with everything the Universe has in store for you; self-care is precisely how we nurture this connection for longevity, gratification, and abundance.
Self-care achieves harmony between what feels good and is good. It re-energizes the body and rejuvenates the spirit, so that we can continue to explore the layers of our divine creative potential.
